STANFORD, Calif. – Senior Bret Bonanni, one of the most decorated men's water polo players in school history, added another accolade to his impressive list of achievements on Tuesday. The Cardinal was named to the All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation First Team for a third straight season. Bonanni joined fellow senior BJ Churnside and redshirt junior Adam Abdulhamid on the 2015 all-conference teams.
Both Bonanni and Churnside were recognized by the MPSF for a fourth straight season. Churnside and Abdulhamid were honorable mention selections.
Bonanni, a Science, Technology & Society major, finished his Stanford career with a school and conference-record 360 career goals. He passed Stanford legend and current captain of the United States Men's Water Polo National Team, Tony Azevedo during his senior season. Bonanni is the only Cardinal in history to post multiple 90-goal seasons, achieving the feat each of the last three years with his 94 scores this past season. He scored in 29 of Stanford's 30 games with multiple goals in 25 contests in 2015. Bonanni recorded 95 career multiple-goal games and 68 career hat tricks. Bonanni was honored by the MPSF all four years, collecting first-team honors three times and second-team laurels once.
Churnside was one of the Cardinal's leading scorers this past year, finishing the season with 32 goals. He posted goals in 19 games and multiple scores in 11 contests, with three hat tricks during the season. The Electrical Engineering major finished his career with 155 goals. Churnside was a second team selection in 2014 and an honorable mention as a sophomore in 2013.
Abdulhamid, a Computer Science major, finished the season second on the team and eighth in the MPSF in scoring with 59 goals on the year. The redshirt junior scored five goals in the MPSF Championships for the Cardinal. Abdulhamid scored in 25 of Stanford's 30 games overall, with multiple scores in 16 contests. He recorded 10 hat tricks on the year, with a season-best five goals against Santa Clara and MIT.
Stanford finished the 2015 season 22-8 overall, placing fifth in the MPSF Championships.
