In response to domestic coronavirus developments, Stanford University is strongly discouraging all large-scale university gatherings of 150 people or more, effective March 4 through April 15. Stanford Live, in compliance with the university’s decision, is moving to cancel large-scale performances within this time frame. This performance was initially relocated to a new venue in Palo Alto. As of 3/7/20, this performance has also been canceled.

The sensational Vivaldi virtuoso Alana Youssefian joins PBO for a romantic whirl with Mendelssohn’s impassioned concerto, lushly cushioned by the rousing overture to Cherubini’s first Parisian opera, and the expansive optimism of Schubert’s last completed symphony, considered to be his finest piece for orchestra. Let PBO’s gut strings pull your heartstrings into a warm, reflective embrace of historically-informed Romanticism.

Program

  • CHERUBINI Overture to Démophoon
MENDELSSOHN Violin Concerto in E minor, Op. 64
SCHUBERT Symphony No. 9 in C major, D. 944, “The Great”
