STANFORD, Calif. - Goalkeeper
Kelsey Bing was named the 2019 America East Fall Scholar-Athlete, the conference announced Monday.
The Scholar-Athletes were members of teams in the six championship sports which America East sponsored in the fall season including men's and women's cross country, field hockey, men's and women's soccer and volleyball. Nominees were put forward by their institution, which could nominate up to one student-athlete per sport, then voted upon by the conference's Student-Athlete Engagement committee. Each America East Scholar-Athlete was a starter or prominent reserve and carries a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.50.
Sport Scholar-Athletes are automatically eligible for the America East Female or Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards, which will be announced in July.
Bing, a mechanical engineering major with a GPA of 3.94, helped lead the Cardinal to the America East title in the fall, followed by a trip to the NCAA Tournament, featuring an opening round win over Miami (Ohio). Bing is the first in program history to earn the honor from the America East.
A second-team All-American in 2019, Bing finished her career with Stanford as a three-time America East Goalkeeper of the Year and started all but one game in the cage as a senior. From Houston, Bing has excelled in the classroom since arriving to The Farm, named to the NFHCAÂ National Academic Squad each year on campus.Â
