Machmud Makhmudov

2022 Cohort

Machmud Makhmudov, from Lilburn, Georgia, is pursuing a JD at Stanford Law School. An Uzbek-Uighur immigrant, he graduated with honors from Oberlin College with a bachelor’s degree in politics. At Oberlin, he led the Student Senate and competed on the varsity baseball team. He then earned an MPhil in political theory from the University of Oxford. Machmud intends to pursue a career in state and local politics with a focus on transportation and environmental policy. He has served as a speechwriter and campaign staffer, most recently working on Joe Biden's campaign policy team. He presently serves on the White House COVID Response Team, where he has worked on the Administration's efforts to ship over 1 billion vaccines across the world. Machmud has been named a Rhodes Scholar, Truman Scholar, and Cole Scholar, and also earned Oberlin's Aaron Wildavsky Prize as the top graduating senior specializing in American politics and government.
